Community & Population Fish Ecology
pattern and processes in dynamic ecosystems
Welcome
Fishes are a diverse group inhabiting heterogeneous habitats from headwater streams to large rivers, reservoirs, estuarine and marine areas. These habitats have have being impacted by polution, unregulated fisheries, habitat degradation, loss of connectivity and water abstraction. Our research seeks to progress in conservation of fish diversity and quality of aquatic habitats. We are willing to understand how natural and human-induced gradients of environmental conditions influence population and community dynamics, trophic interactions, life history traits and ecosystems functioning. Most research focuses on fluvial environments where actions aiming to conserve fish diversity must deal with the patterns emerging from these gradients.
